Where To Go For Today's Horse Racing Tips?

I trip across an article the other day while surfing and although I do not necessarily agree with all its content thought the common sense of it would make for an interesting read.

The article started by commenting on waging betting war against the bookmakers and on the exchanges but ask you: where we would be without the bookmakers sponsorship today? I think there is a more appropriate analogy where the bookmaker is the lion and we the punters. We have two punters walking through the jungle who trip across a lion. One of the two punters sits down and starts to change his walking boots for trainers. The second punter states that changing in to trainers is pointless he will never out run the lion. The first punter replies I don't need to out run the lion, I just need to out run you. We need the bookmaker and are in fact in competition with each other. Where do my winnings come from? The answer is losing bets and punters.

The article continued

There has never been a greater need for advice on which horse to back to win a race. With so much information floating around, just where do you go for today's horse racing tips?
Many people do not have the time or prerequisite skills to use their own methods of research and form study to identify potential winning horses. Therefore they are left with two or three sound options.

* Daily Newspapers

Firstly every UK newspaper has a horse racing correspondent, who specialises in this field. Many of them are very good indeed, however there are two major problems with using this as your source for today's horse racing tips!

Firstly, the information on the selected horse will be read by so many countless of others. Like the stock market when too many people get the same positive news the price of the stock is likely to rise. The opposite effect happens here, as bookmakers price according to demand the price will plummet, therefore you will not be getting a value price on these selections. Unless the journalist goes completely against the grain and shoots for a complete outsider!

Secondly, certain journalists are connected to specific yards more than others. Therefore information on the Sir Michael Stoute stable might be really impressive, however the same paper tipping a horse from another yard may prove to be very poor. Unless you statistically learn which papers are connected to which yards you will struggle to make this pay long term!

* Betting Systems

Many people use betting systems to generate the selections for them. In principle this can be a rewarding and time saving exercise. There are many good systems on the market, the main problem however is the sheer number of bad quality systems that are sold that do not work!! So the biggest issue here is being able to focus on finding a winning system that can hold the test of time.

TA: I think that this is very important, the view that there are no betting systems or tipsters that provide profit is a falsie. 'Top Racing Bets' are testament to that. Whether they charge for their services or not is irrelevant. Those that charge for their horse racing tips or horse racing systems are not necessarily all successful. Alternatively horse racing tipsters offering a free service are not necessarily free because they are so poor they can not charge. Back to the article:

* Horse Racing Tipsters

The industry has created the myth that all sorts of dodgy cockney type shady characters are on every street corner selling information for cash! In fairness over the years there have been plenty of rouge tipsters that have not helped. However, many of the top racing tipsters are incredibly well educated and some are professors and mathematicians!

When finding the right tipster, bar none this can be the most lucrative source for today's horse racing tips. Unlike the papers, they do not have to give a selection for every race, they only give out the information from stables they are more than likely connected with. This ensures that the advice and selection given on any one day, will at least be trying and tuned to win.

Wherever you seek the information on today's horse racing tips, keep an open mind. Realise also that you get what you pay for. The industry is run on inside information, and those really in the know are part of the 'lucky' two percent of an elite group of winners!

TA: Not sure about 'you get what you pay for' comment as it insults me but hey-ho. One thing I feel really strongly about and would be, in my opinion the most important factor for anyone seeking to profit from horse racing tips and information. You must not take a small snap-shot of results and make up your mind whether a service is good or bad. Neither would I paper trade while testing a service. Initially using small stakes over an extended period makes more sense and build up your bank. If the service is good in the long term it will not take long to show a healthy profit.

Behind the blog

Being born on Saturday 7th March 1959 at 3:00, just as they were coming down the straight it is only fitting that I should have a passion for horse racing. A passion which I shared and enjoyed with my father who sadly passed away last night after a lengthy illness.
I will attempt to keep the blog rolling along in tribute to his name but ask you to understand if the usual prompt timing of posts go a little astray in the couple of weeks ahead.

Horse Racing TV Commentator - Dougie Fraser found in river

A body found in Leeds identified as racing commentator. Police had searched for Mr Fraser for more than a week and confirmed a body found in a Leeds river is that of missing horse racing commentator George Douglas Fraser. Mr Fraser, known as Doug, was reported missing on 5 June, after failing to arrive for work at Hexham Races in Northumberland.

Police discovered his body in the River Aire, close to the Millennium footbridge in Leeds, on 13 June.
An inquest into the death of Mr Fraser, 55, was due to open on Monday. Mr Fraser was known in the racing world for his commentaries for betting shops, radio and TV, and from courses across the UK. Police are not treating his death as suspicious.

Horse Racing Results For Today

Fergus Cameron turns over the track at Wolverhampton yet again to turn the results in to a bookies benefit. Please forgive my conspiratorial stance on this but I cant help wondering whether the bookmakers all club together for his services.

What really makes my blood boil is that unlike most turf courses who advise of water, moving rails etc. the first wind of the course being rotivated is from Simon Mapletoft on At The Races 10 minutes before the first race, by which time the money is down and all hope lost. Simon Mapletoft in his ignorance of the situation commented that the clerk of the course was expecting the course to run close to standard. Well thanks for the heads-up Simon but perhaps you would like to look at the times recorded today or look 'Standard' up in a dictionary.

For those new to this blog here is a post from October 2009. Questions from me and Answers from Fergus Cameron. The most poignant part for me and I quote "From its originally being laid, Wolverhampton set out to achieve a consistency that could be sustained over the whole year, Summer & Winter. Any deviation from this will devalue the race form" Could his failure to deliver this mean a vacancy as 'Clerk of the Course' at Wolverhampton?

Subject: FW: Significant Going Change

Each Polytrack is slightly different in its makeup and age. As such each will respond differently to weather conditions and volume of racing ( I cannot comment further on the other tracks though). Maintenance is assessed on a daily basis, although there are certain jobs that will be carried out less regularly. Before answering your specific questions, please note the following.

The whole maintenance regime revolves around primarily safety and secondly consistency. Equine and jockey safety is essential if the sport is to survive. Accordingly, we will assess the state of the track in relation to the pad (the bottom 5” of Polytrack) and then the cushion (the top 2” Polytrack). Essentially the horses race on the pad (lower level), and the tightness of it will determine the speed that the track rides at. The faster it is, the higher the risk of injury to the horse. From its originally being laid, Wolverhampton set out to achieve a consistency that could be sustained over the whole year, Summer & Winter. Any deviation from this will devalue the race form. (One must not forget though that horses, like humans are not machines which perform identically every time they run). Whilst I will detail the type of works that are carried out later, our stated objective is always to achieve Standard” going. In the absence of any formal/independent going device we can only judge the going through personal assessment (we have been in discussion with our independent track consultant over a period on this and am awaiting further advice). The proof is when horses race under full racing conditions. Assessment is made using short distance races (hopefully no longer than 6 furlongs) based on average winning times over a 2 year period. I will always confer with those in the press room. The race days to which you refer show slightly different signs. The 3rd October was on the fast side of standard (with hindsight possibly standard to fast). The times for the 9th reflected standard going. Race 1 was a 3+ 5f class 5 handicap with the winners time with .2 off a second of standard. Race 3 was a 7f, 3+, 51-65 handicap where the time was .4 of a second off the average time.

The maintenance carried out includes rotavating, power harrowing and Gallop Mastering. Rotavating is done up to twice a year and involves working the track with a set of vertically rotating tines down to 6” – 6 ½”., bringing material that may have settled at the bottom, back up to the top. The track is power harrowed as required (which could be up to twice a week during the busy periods) to a depth of between 4” – 4 ½”. After either of these works, the track is re instated using the Gallop Masters (which are harrows with two crumble bar rolls and a series of shallow tines. These machines are also fitted with wheel mark eradicators to ensure that no advantage is left where the tractor wheels have been.

What work has been carried out on the racing surface during the period 3rd – 9th October 2009? a twice yearly turning over of the material was carried out. This was preceded by a re-grading of the track the previous week, which was followed by a double power harrow. On each occasion the track was re instated to a consistency that we believed reflected standard going.

Is there a schedule for work on the surface carried out independent to that of the meeting schedules? what I am hoping to understand is how the day to day regime differs from that of preparation made prior to a meeting. My limited understanding is that the Polytrack knits together over time and needs to be harrowed to a suitable depth to prevent it compacting. Except for Gallop Mastering between race 3 & 6 of an 8 race card, no works are “scheduled”. That said we will use any of the following as necessary to assist in produce standard ground: Machinery includes Rotavators, Power harrows, Gallop masters and occasionally the use of disk harrows.

As maintenance on the track may impact on a horses performance are Trainers advised on any track surface alterations? Our aim is always to re instate to standard going. In the absence of any supporting evidence prior to testing at racing pace, except in exceptional circumstances, we aim to start on standard ground. As such, historically there has been no benefit in passing this information on. We then assess the track under full racing conditions and if in our view times do not represent standard going, we will adjust the going accordingly. These are only minor changes though.

Is any surface work carried out passed in to the public domain beyond that of reporting ‘Standard’ or ‘Slow’ to the racing press? No. The track has stayed within the agreed going parameters and do not impact on the performance of the track with the current methods of going assessment available.

What maintenance is required on the surface and why? As previously stated

What bodies need to be informed prior to any work being carried out on the racing surface? Any non routine works need to be notified/approved by the BHA. This will include any works carried out by the track supplier such as re-waxing. That said, the BHA were aware that we were rotavating.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us.

Horse Racing Tips - Reply to M.S.

It is a pity you only cover the all weather horse racing fixtures.

Answer: All weather horse racing would not be my code of choice. Family life and full-time employment make it impractical for me to compile speed figures for any other code. The days of depriving my body of sleep for 24 hours preparing for the Bank Holiday’s horse racing fixtures have gone! The horse racing schedule for the all weather is far more conducive to family life with the main focus of its horse racing fixtures during the winter months.

Can you tell me where I can find a good horse racing guide so I can understand some of the terms?

Answer: I do not favour any particular horse racing guide but feel sure that a simple search on the internet will assist in helping you become familiar with the terminologies used. You mention the sporting life racing website and was surprised they offer no newbie guides. You will find signing up to horse racing forums may also help.

Also if your top rated is different than the course and distance horse betting tips do you bet on both?

Answer: A categorical YES! I am aware there are many out there who feel:
as there can only be one winner in a race, logic dictates that you only back one horse to win. If you are unable to make a definitive choice, leave the race alone
I used to fall in to this camp but over time always felt that to frequently I had opted for the wrong horse, (probably more psychological than reality) Now my view is that by backing two or three horse in a race when neccessary, I am simply trimming the odds of my selections by one point or two points while doubling or trebling my chance of trapping the winner.

Can you tell me of any other good online horse racing betting systems or horse betting tips?

Answer: I am currently signed up to ‘Top Racing Bets’ which cost £50 per month. The main motivation behind this is to fill the void left by the infrequency of All Weather horse racing meetings. It makes sense that as I don’t have sufficient time to compile for turf flat horse racing I am using someone else to provide me with tips to maintain my horse racing income. I plan to stop the service once the All Weather horse racing schedule picks back up.

Are there any free internet sites that give free horse racing TV?

Answer: Sorry, I am not aware of any but have not researched this. Most online horse racing betting sites offer a service which allows you to watch races if you have invested at least £1 on that particular race.

I think it would be a good idea to see graphs or working out that shows comparisons between horse racing results Kempton versus Wolverhampton horse racing results for example

Answer: I do personally monitor this but feel the work involved in constantly updating this information after each meeting would be time wasted with no real end value. The peaks and troughs would merely show which courses have had the most successful betting opportunities.

How far back do your horse racing past performances and past horse racing results go?

Answer: This is something I have tussled with over the years and after a great deal of analysis concluded that any records over 2 years old distorted form lines rather than enhanced them. There are the odd exceptions to this rule but are far too infrequent to lose sleep over.

Can you tell me of any good horse racing books to read?

Answer: To be honest reading most horse racing books on form analysis are not what I would call enthralling and would much rather read a Dick Francis novel. But if this is what floats your boat I would suggest starting with Nick Mordin - Mordin on Time Andrew Beyer - The Winning Horseplayer: An Advanced Approach to Thoroughbred Handicapping and Betting - Beyer on Speed: New Strategies for Racetrack Betting - Picking Winners: Horseplayer's Guide Joe Cardello - Speed to Spare: Beyer Speed Figures Uncovered (Elements of Handicapping) and David Bellingham - Gold from the Sand: The Alchemy of All-weather Racing. The last being specific to All Weather horse racing.

I would also be interested in your views on American horse racing versus the horse racing England offers

Answer: I have an opinion on most things but sorry if I disappoint you by saying I have no opinion on one over the other beyond the difference in the horse race betting markets. When I have a bet I want to secure a price!

I wonder if you could explain about spread betting horse racing.

Answer: I think you have your terms muddled here. ‘Spread Betting’ and ‘Horse Racing’. Spread betting can be associated with any betting market including financial so is not exclusive to horse racing or sport. Spread Betting is not something that can be explained in a few sentences and is not one of my areas of expertise. I am sure you will find a search on the internet will be more enlightening than my views on the subjects.

Thank you M.S. for your support and kind words; this in many ways is greater reward than the financial benefits. When I recieve emails from people new to horse racing I am always concern over the level of expectation they may have and I feel that I would be doing you a disservices if I did not end this reply with a note of warning that even after all my years compiling speed figures, results at times have me on the verge of despair and ask you to exercise caution and look to the long term gains not a quick fix.

Horse Racing Tips?

I am sharing the email below as I thought that some of the numerous questions may be being asked by other readers of this blog. Answers will follow tomorrow.

Dear Actuary,

After watching the horse racing today, I decided to contact you and thank you for a brilliant horse racing tip. It is a pity you only cover the all weather horse racing fixtures. I am fairly new to racing and I’ve looked at many horse racing tipsters websites, your free racing tips are by far the best I’ve come across. Although todays horse racing results weren’t all successful for you the price of the winning horse made up for the loser.

Can you tell me where I can find a good horse racing guide so I can understand some of the terms? I find it can be very confusing. Also if your top rated is different than the course and distance horse betting tips do you bet on both? Can you tell me of any other good online horse racing betting systems or horse betting tips? Are there any free internet sites that give free horse racing tv? I use the sporting life racing website at the moment can you tell me if there are better sites to use. I think it would be a good idea to see graphs or working out that shows comparisons between horse racing results Kempton versus Wolverhampton horse racing results for example. Recently horse racing results lingfield and southwell horse racing results are your best. How far back do your horse racing past performances and past horse racing results go? It is obvious that you have a passion for horse racing analysis can you tell me of any good horse racing books to read?

I had always thought that horse race handicapping referred to weight and not speed in british horse racing so you have educated me in that. Todays horse racing results are proof that you know what you are doing. I have so many questions and would love the opportunity to discuss your horse racing betting system with you if you could find the time in your busy horse racing schedule. I would also be interested in your views on American horse racing versus the horse racing England offers. Also, and I apologise for bombarding you but I wonder if you could explain about spread betting horse racing.

You must be very dedicated as I have noticed that as soon as the horse racing declarations go up your horse racing tips for tomorrow are posted and in my opinion you offer the VERY BEST uk horse racing tips. I cannot enthuse too much about your horse racing selections, and horse racing result today are proof of what you offer. I have sent this donation and will continue to send a percentage of my winnings to you because you are the best free horse racing tip site that I have found in all of the hundreds of internet horse racing sites I have found.

Thanks, once again, for the horse racing results for today you should go down in horse racing history!

P.S. I love the music you use on your horse racing videos on youtube

Horse Racing Tips

With All Weather race horse meetings far and few between at this time of the year and most major horse racing events over shadowing racing on artificial surfaces, compounded by little exposure in the racing news you would be forgiven for thinking that horse tipsters would be giving All Weather horse racing fixtures a wide birth. As a horse tipster specialising on All Weather speed handicapping I would like to point out that the infrequency of meetings this time of year has no impact on the potential to profit. Latest horse racing surveys carried out by online betting sites has shown the interest in all weather racing is still very much on the increase.

When it comes to looking for horse racing tips today you are spoilt for choice. With new internet sites springing up daily offering free horse racing tips the punter has to be extremely wary of the charlatans. Tips for horse racing especially free horse tips are frequently used as hooks for other marketing ventures. I would like to comfort you in advising that here at ‘The Actuary’ we are passionate about helping you to profit from horse racing.

nb: There is a discernable difference between top rated and the only one (in this case two) rated. Unless the rating is high enough to look competitive enough for the grade I tend to leave the race alone. In this case there was something very likeable about the run of Suzhou in a race which is working out well. Suzhou was smartly away from a wide draw and then raced mid division five wide throughout most of the trip but kept competitive, but found little when asked for additional effort going down by 3.5 lengths. Suzhou lost a lot more than this taking in taking the route it took and at 33-1 (Bet365) would not be suprised to see it at least in the frame.

Top Racing Bets

Finally found the time to work out my profit from Top Racing Bets for May 2010.

As I did not follow the racing ever day during May I have had to extract this data from my betting accounts so my figures will not marry up with those advertised on the Top Racing Bets website. In-Form Racing made me a profit of £205 less £40 subscription leaving £165 which is a reasonable return and makes a grand total of £1,525.00 over 4 months.

As most of you are aware I cannot get enthusiastic about laying horses. I have been cheering horses on to win for to long to start cheering them to lose (or do you need to boo) so did not renew Profitable Lays but have been advised by A.S. below that at £10 stakes a profit of £118 less £30 subscription leaving £88. Plus the £455 that would have been made in the previous 3 months if I had followed their lay advise a profit of £543.

Sorry to see the special offer of £50 for 3 services disappear so soon but at least that gave an opportunity to trial the service with little outlay.

If you are considering signing up remember you do have the Clickbank 60 day money back guarantee to fall back on.

2nd June 2010 Kempton

I cannot help but feel a little hard done by this evening and my betting accounts are showing a dent on an evening that should have been so different. With 3 of the 8 races (5:50,7:20 & 7:50) unplayable I was very hopeful with the remainder of the card. The first three races of interest there were no excuses and mid division for all three selections had me anticipating just one of those days. But the real pain was yet to be inflicted in the manner of the loss in the last two races.

I have no doubt that had White Devil not been snatched up at a vital time it would have got the better of Avon River instead of going down by an ever decreasing 1/2 length.

Then to rub salt in to the wound David Kenny makes poor use of a favourable draw to give Annambo a hell of a task in the 9:20. Out the back end all the way round until making ground hand over fist to only finish 3rd @ 16-1 2.5 lengths down.

* Daily Newspapers

* Betting Systems

* Horse Racing Tipsters

Regards

M.S.

Good Luck

nb: There is a discernable difference between top rated and the only one (in this case two) rated.

Good Luck
